Old Man Winter is making his retreat, meaning we can (soon,
at least) say goodbye to beanie hat hair and stop worrying about heavy
snow putting a damper on our curls.
Summer, though, poses hair
styling challenges of its own: The heat index and subsequent frizz
factor, or perhaps those sweltering days when you just need to get your
hair off your neck - but don't want to confine your tresses to yet
another boring ponytail.
Thankfully, there are plenty of chic summer hairstyles that don't require spending a ton of time primping.
PART WAYS WITH YOUR TYPICAL PONYTAIL
Models strutting the runways at New York Fashion Week this spring previewed a dramatic new hair trend: deep side parts.
This
is an easy look to perfect, especially with second-day hair, and can be
incorporated into a quick up-do, says Michelle Forst of George the
Salon (www.GeorgeTheSalon.com) in Chicago.
"Make an extreme part
to one side of the head," Forst says. "Then, use pins to pull the
lighter side over. Twist the hair so it will be easy to pin."
Another way to play with parts?
"Make
a center part and pull into a ponytail," Forst says. "Back comb your
ponytail and use five or so pins to pin it for a messy, but sleek look."
