DKNY’s street casting last season was one of the highlights of New York Fashion Week.
The blue braids, peroxide chops, head-to-toe tattoos, and all matters
of shapes, sizes, and personalities that strutted down the runway were
positively invigorating. And it turns out that months later, the crew is
still hanging out together. So why not keep the party going?
Donna Karan saw her DKNY
resort collection as a continuation of that celebratory street spirit.
So sure, you have all the graphic black-and-white elements, crisp cotton
shirts buttoned to the neck, canvas baseball caps, cool platform
sneakers and oxfords but now they’re mixed with bubbly pieces like a
feathered dress, silver lamé pleated skirt, or tank top with fringe
hanging down to the knees. It was Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball
meets Andy Warhol’s Factory.
For good measure there was a healthy
dose of blush pink that, in tomboyish shapes like loose trousers and
oversize coats, still managed to excite, no body ink necessary.
